As part of the celebrations for our 30th Well Built Community Fund, we recently called out to groups, colleges and charities who help young people learn a trade to tell us how a donation of £1,000 to spend at an RGB branch would be of help.
All the entries have been whittled down to the final three and it's now down to the public to decide who receives the donation.
Boot Up Outdoor Learning
The community interest organisation based at Perranarworthal works with vulnerable young people between the ages of 11 and 16 providing vocational courses in horticulture and construction. Boot Up is currently building a workshop so it can extend its teaching and have a dry indoor space to undertake woodworking projects. If voted as the Community Fund winner, it will use the donation to complete the workshop so it's ready for the start of the new school year in September.
Constructing Futures Devon
As part of Devon Communities Together, Exeter-based Constructing Futures Devon has been set up to train young people in the construction industry. Trainees gain first-hand experience by working on properties purchased by Constructing Futures Devon. Once complete, the properties are sold on and a new one purchased, ensuring there are always projects for learning. If voted as the Community Fund winner, it will use the donation to purchase tools for trainees who are unable to buy them, and also materials to help with its current project
Transferable Skills Training
The community interest organisation based in Callington works with vulnerable young people and adults to provide vocational education and training to help them go on to further learning, apprenticeships or employment. One area of training is focused on construction and if Transferable Skills Training is voted as the Community Fund winner, it will use the donation to extend its carpentry workshop to help cater for more learners.
The public can vote for who they would like to receive the £1,000 worth of building materials by one of three ways:
- By visiting RGB's Exeter, Launceston or Porthleven branches and placing a chip in the relevant box
- By visiting RGB's Facebook page and choosing who they would like to vote for on the poll that will be at the top of the page when voting goes live
- By emailing RGB@pmwcom.co.uk and putting the name of the group they would like to win in the subject box
Votes can be cast between Monday 22nd July and 8am on Monday 5th August. Votes cast outside of these dates will not be counted and can only be made at a branch during normal opening hours. Only one vote per person via one method of voting will be counted.
We wish all three finalists the very best of luck.
