Our Porthleven branch is delighted to be the new sponsor of the Porthleven Gig Club Ladies Supervets team.
The team was formed in 2019 and features six mature ladies who have a combined age of over 400 years and were looking for opportunities to go from social to competitive rowing. The RGB sponsorship has enabled the team to purchase a racing kit.
Having completed winter training in Falmouth – in order to avoid Porthleven harbour’s famous storms – at the end of last year, the Supervets were hoping to start racing at the World Gig Championships in May, but with everything being cancelled, their plans were halted. Despite on water training and indoor rowing also being stopped, the ladies continued to train and race against each other using rowing, running and cycling machines.
The team is now back in the water and training, ready to start competing in their new kits in 2021.
Ken Bud, Porthleven Gig Club Ladies Supervets’ Cox and Trainer, commented:
“The Porthleven Ladies Supervets crew are proud to be competing in their new race kit sponsored by our local RGB branch in Porthleven. Having their own team kit has helped to motivate them during a hard winter's training and they are very grateful for RGB's support. We are looking forward to a great summer of racing next year and we will of course keep our friends at RGB updated with our progress.”
Lee Atkinson, Branch Manager at RGB Porthleven, added:
“We’re delighted to be supporting the Porthleven Gig Club Ladies Supervets. We are big believers in helping groups in our region and it’s great to see the ladies in their new RGB branded kit. We wish the team the very best of luck and look forward to hearing about their results when they start racing.”
