Our Bodmin branch is delighted to have donated a range of tools and supplies to Golden Tree Productions to support its new training programme being run in partnership with the Guild of Cornish Hedgers.
The programme gives people the unique opportunity to learn the ancient craft of hedging. The 2, 5 and 10-day training courses take place at Golden Tree Productions’ ‘Kerdroya’ project, which is the construction of a 56m diameter classical labyrinth built of Cornish stone hedging at Colliford Lake on Bodmin Moor. Learners will have the chance to be part of the skilled team building a piece of permanent public art.
Once the project is complete, visitors will be able to walk through stretches of artisan stonework that celebrate the distinct hedging styles from 12 Cornish locations. At the very heart of Kerdroya will be a 10m circular space that opens out to views across the moorland and lake and features a specially commissioned piece of art.
Our Bodmin branch has donated tools and supplies, including West Country Shovels, a wheelbarrow, buckets, chisels, packs of gloves and eye protection glasses, that will be used by those signing up to one of the training programmes.
Will Coleman, Artistic Director at Golden Tree Productions, commented:
“Meur ras’ (thank you) to RGB Building Supplies for their generous donation of tools and supplies, which we need to train up the next generation of Cornish hedgers. The Outdoor University of Cornish Hedging is now open, inviting one and all to be part of a project that will support tens of thousands of species of insects and pollinators, plus 600 types of flowering plants – it’s a deep investment in Cornwall’s future! 'Y’gan keow y hwhelir anethow!' (Cornish hedges are one of our great-unsung wonders!)”
Martin Ballantyne, Branch Manager at RGB Bodmin, added:
“We are big believers in doing what we can to support groups and projects in our area, so we’re delighted to donate tools and supplies to Golden Tree Productions. Kerdroya will be a fantastic piece of art and a great addition to our region. We wish the team every success with completing the project.”
