We are pleased to update you on how our Surprise Supplies initiative has benefited our local community – and our feline friends in particular. Hector’s House, a dedicated cat rescue and rehoming charity in Torquay, was voted the winner of our Surprise Supplies initiative by the local community in 2021. The charity was awarded £1,000 to spend at our Torquay branch. Since relocating to a new, larger facility, Hector’s House has found the perfect opportunity to use the donation.
Hector’s House Cat Rescue was set up in 2020 and predominantly helps stray cats who need to be reunited with their owners or, through no fault of their own, cannot easily be housed. The charity ensures all the cats have a health check and, since 2020, has rescued, treated and rehomed over 2,000 cats and kittens.
Founder Zara Oldfield previously operated the charity from her own home. However, after facing growing demand, she relocated to larger premises, recently moving to a dedicated space in Chelston. Zara and her team of volunteers have transformed Hector’s House's new home, installing purpose-built pens to ensure the comfort and safety of the rescued felines.
The move gave Hector’s House the perfect opportunity to use our £1,000 donation and install a Ideal Logic Max boiler. This ensures a comfortable and warm environment for the rescued cats and kittens, while also providing the charity with essential hot water for daily operations.
Zara Oldfield commented: “We are incredibly grateful to RGB Building Supplies for the donation, which enables us to provide a warm and comfortable environment for our rescued cats and kittens. As a small charity, we rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters, and all donations make a tremendous difference.”
Scott May from our Torquay branch visited Hector’s House to see how the donation had been used. He added: “Hector’s House does important work in rescuing and rehoming cats across Torbay. It was fantastic to visit their new dedicated space and see the boiler installed and up and running.”
Hector’s House continues to rely on donations to fund its operations. It is currently caring for 67 kittens and is particularly in need of kitten food at the moment. Those interested in supporting the charity can donate by contacting Hector’s House directly via its website.
