Lanivet Community Centre has been voted as one of our winners of our Surprise Supplies initiative and now has £1,000 to spend on materials at RGB Bodmin.

RGB had invited organisations from across the region that had been affected by the pandemic to get in touch and explain how a donation would help. Alongside The Pine Centre in Bideford, Lanivet Community Centre received the most votes following a public poll and each winner has received a donation of £1,000.

Lanivet Community Centre serves a wide range of people in the Bodmin area and offers a host of activities for all ages, backgrounds and interests. The centre is currently building an extension to house a coffee shop for use by communities throughout the region, which as well as providing a space for people to meet up, will support those affected by social isolation and provide training for young people in the food preparation and service industries.  The donation of materials will be used to help complete the build.

Barry Cornelius, Community Centre Manager, commented:

“Our community centre has become vital for so many people and, after having to be closed for long-periods of the past 18 months, it’s wonderful to start seeing people through the doors again. The coffee shop is not just going to be a great addition to the centre, but also for the village and wider region, and we’re so grateful for the generous donation from RGB Building Supplies. In particular, we’d like to thank Meena Madhvani who uses the community centre and put us forward for the Surprise Supplies initiative without even mentioning it to us, and of course a huge thank you to everyone who voted for us – the support is greatly appreciated.”

Peter Derry from RGB Bodmin, visited Lanivet Community Centre to learn more about how the £1,000 will be used. He added:

“Congratulations to Lanivet Community Centre; we’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile local project. I’m looking forward to returning to see the completed coffee shop.”
