Hector’s House, a Torquay-based cat rescue and rehoming charity, has been voted as a winner of RGB Building Supplies’ Surprise Supplies initiative and now has £1,000 to spend on materials at RGB’s Torquay branch.

RGB invited charities from across the region to get in touch and explain how a donation of materials would help to complete a project. Alongside Hector’s House, West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team received the most votes following a public poll and each winner has received a donation of £1,000.

Hector’s House Cat Rescue was set up in 2020 and predominantly helps stray cats who need to be reunited with their owners or, through no fault of their own, cannot easily be housed. The charity is formed of volunteers who have experience working with cat rescues and have a passion for strays. As well as rescuing and rehoming stray cats, Hector’s House ensures all the cats have a health check and become used to being looked after.

The charity will be using the £1,000 to purchase materials to update essential facilities.

Zara Oldfield set up the charity. She commented:

“We are very grateful to RGB and everyone who voted for us. As a small charity, we are fully reliant on the donations of our supporters to ensure we can continue to do the work we do. The £1,000 will really make a difference to us and we’re ready to get started on the project.”

Steve Spear from RGB Torquay visited Hector’s House to learn more about their plans. Steve added:

“This is exactly the type of project that we want to help with Surprise Supplies. The charity does a vital job in rehoming cats across the region. Congratulations to Hector’s House and good luck with the project - we look forward to helping with materials and ensuring the £1,000 goes as far as possible. I can’t wait to return to see the new cat pens.”
