West Cornwall Women's Aid has been voted as the latest recipient of RGB Building Supplies' Well Built Community Fund and now has £1,000 to spend at an RGB branch.
The charity received the most votes following a public poll, where it was up against Path Torbay and Crediton Methodist Church.
West Cornwall Women's Aid supports women and children who have fled their homes due to domestic violence and has helped many women safely rebuild their lives. It has a number of bedrooms/flatlets, communal lounges, a playroom and dedicated chill-out space for teenagers, which the charity is responsible for ensuring are in a good decorative order.
The charity also provides support to women and children living in West Cornwall through their Community Services Project, which includes a helpline, one to one outreach support, group support, yoga, craft groups, children's one to one support and counselling. These services are free of charge and can be accessed via the Helpline 01736 367539.
Lizzie Matthews, representing West Cornwall Women's Aid, commented:
"It's vital the women and children we support are made to feel safe and valued, and arriving to a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing space really helps with this. We will be using the Community Fund donation to decorate bedrooms and communal areas, and we're extremely grateful to RGB; the money will make such a difference. A huge thank you to everyone who showed their support by voting for us."
Danny Clackworthy, Assistant Branch Manager at RGB Penzance, added:
"West Cornwall Women's Aid is such a fantastic charity and is vital for helping women to move on with their lives - we look forward helping them ensure their £1,000 goes a long way."
